Welcome to the FFA NYC Travel Team Program
Our Travel Team Program is for dedicated young athletes ready to take their soccer skills to the next level. Designed for players ages 8 to 11, this program offers advanced training and competitive matches across New York City.
We have five teams, each with 10-12 players, competing against top teams from all five boroughs. Players will refine their technical and tactical abilities while building teamwork, sportsmanship, and confidence. This is our most competitive program, ideal for passionate players committed to excellence.
Our teams
We currently offer five competitive teams based on birth year:
U8 (2017/2018): For players born in 2017 and 2018. Focuses on introducing fundamental skills, fostering a love for the game, and building confidence.
U9 (2016): For players born in 2016. Emphasizes foundational skills, teamwork, and basic game strategies.
U10 (2015): Two balanced teams for players born in 2015, supporting individual growth, team cohesion, and advanced technical training.
U11 (2014): For players born in 2014. Prepares for high-level competition with advanced skills, tactical awareness, and strong team dynamics.
spring 2025 training SCHEDULE
Our Travel Team follows a structured training schedule designed to enhance players' fitness, technical skills, and game intelligence. This comprehensive schedule ensures players develop strength, agility, technical precision, and tactical awareness in preparation for high-level competition.
Start Date: Tuesday March 11, 2025.
End Date: Friday June 13, 2025
Time: 4:00 PM – 5:30 PM.
Game Days: Weekends (Schedule TBD by CSJL League)
Weekly Training and Location:
Tuesdays (Fitness Training) – Chelsea Waterside Park
Wednesdays (Technical & Tactical Training) – Gansevoort Peninsula Athletic Field
Fridays (Ball Mastery Training) – Pier 40 Rooftop

Coaching young soccer players born in 2017 (approximately 6-7 years old) requires a fun, engaging, and developmentally appropriate approach. At this stage, the emphasis should be on building a love for the game while introducing foundational skills and fostering social and physical development.
Key Areas of Focus:
Fun and Engagement:
Ensure every session is enjoyable to build enthusiasm for soccer.
Incorporate games and activities that allow kids to explore the ball and enjoy movement.
Basic Motor Skills:
Develop gross motor skills like running, jumping, and coordination.
Integrate agility, balance, and basic movement exercises into sessions.
Foundational Soccer Skills:
Introduce dribbling, passing, and shooting with simple, unpressured drills.
Encourage players to use different parts of their feet (inside, outside, sole) to control the ball.
Small-Sided Games:
Use 3v3 or 4v4 games to maximize touches on the ball and provide an inclusive experience.
Avoid rigid positions; allow players to explore different roles and movements.
Social Skills:
Promote teamwork, sharing, and communication through group activities.
Encourage players to support and celebrate each other’s successes.
Coaching Approach:
Positive Reinforcement: Praise effort and participation rather than results to build confidence.
Simplify Instructions: Use clear, concise, and age-appropriate language.
Focus on Exploration: Allow kids to experiment with the ball without fear of making mistakes.
Short, High-Energy Sessions: Keep activities brief and dynamic to match their attention spans.

Dribble Around Cones: Simple cone weaving to develop ball control.

Children born in 2015 (approximately 8 years old) are in a critical stage of soccer development. At this age, they begin to transition from purely fun-based play to learning more structured skills and game awareness. Coaches should focus on building foundational skills, teamwork, and a deeper understanding of the game while maintaining an enjoyable environment.
Key Areas of Focus:
Skill Development:
Emphasize improving technical skills, including dribbling, passing, shooting, and receiving the ball.
Introduce the use of both feet for control and passing to encourage versatility.
Tactical Awareness:
Begin teaching basic positioning and spacing concepts, such as where to be on the field during attack and defense.
Introduce simple team tactics like passing triangles and maintaining shape.
Teamwork and Communication:
Encourage players to communicate on the field, calling for the ball or directing teammates.
Highlight the importance of teamwork over individual play.
Game-Like Situations:
Use small-sided games (5v5 or 7v7) to provide more touches on the ball and better decision-making opportunities.
Gradually increase complexity in drills to simulate real-game scenarios.
Physical Fitness and Coordination:
Incorporate agility, balance, and coordination exercises into training sessions.
Focus on endurance through fun drills that involve running and quick changes in direction.

Begin incorporating set plays, such as corner kicks and goal kicks, to build tactical awareness.
Teamwork and Communication:
Encourage open communication among players during practices and games.
Emphasize the importance of working as a unit rather than relying on individual efforts.

Winter 2024-2025 Season Overview
Winter Season (U9 - U12)
Start Date: December 4th, 2024.
End Date: February 28th, 2025.
Practice: Fridays (U9/U10), Wednesdays (U11/U12)
Location: Chelsea Piers (U9/U10), Pier 40 (U11/U12)
Games: Saturdays (U9/U10) and Sundays (U11/U12) at Chelsea Piers
Exceptions: No practice on December 25th, 27th, and January 1st, 3rd
Required Gear: Indoor soccer shoes and a low-bounce soccer ball
